There has been disagreement about whether the anit-malarial drug hydroxychloroquine should be used to treat the coronavirus /COVID-19. Dr. Anthony Fauci, who has served as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) since 1984 and has been one of the lead members of the Trump Administration's White House Coronavirus Task Force, appears to be quite skeptical of its efficacy. Others, including some within the Trump Administration itself, argue that there is enough evidence and that many doctors support its use against COVID-19. There are reports that it is being used in some New York hospitals, where doctors and patients are being allowed to decide for themselves. However, the use of this drug can be dangerous. What is the evidence to support its use and why do some people say that it should not be used?
